National Consultation about Jordan UPR report for Human Rights

National Consultation between Government and Civil Society Coalitions on the Jordanian Government’s UPR report for human rights and UN human rights council simulation for the review in Geneva in Ghouson Al Zaitoun.

In collaboration with the Office of the Government Coordinator for Human Rights, Mr. Basel Tarawneh, the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation Jordan conducted the “National consultation meeting between the Government and Civil Society coalitions, Journalists and media on Jordan’s Governmental UPR report. The consultations lasted for two days (13. & 14. July 2018) in Jerash in the presence of Her Excellency MP Wafaa Bani Mustafa and the Governor of Jerash City, Mr. Mamoun Lozi, stressing the importance of the national dialogue on Jordans UPR (Universal Periodic Review) report.

The first day included consultative sessions and thematic working groups among all stakeholders on the main themes of the report and specific items in the report. The introduction was held by the Program Manager for Human Right of the Friedrich-Ebert-Foundation Ms. Maha Qashou. Followed by H.E. Basel Tarawneh the Government Coordinator at the Prime Ministry. The first Session was about the Government UPR report for human right. In the second Session, the working Groups discussed and evaluated Jordan’s report. Afterwards, the working groups presented their recommendations on Jordan’s report in the third session.

On the second day, The United Nations simulation of the UPR was held to discuss the official report of the Human Rights Council between the expected Government Delegation to be present in Geneva in November this year and between civil society coalitions. After the simulation we evaluated the achievements and conclusions and discusses the next steps forward on Jordan’s UPR report by Mr. Kamal Mashreqi. Subsequently, we resumed the discussion about the action plan CSDO for Jordan with government officials.

The meeting came out with consensus outputs on specific items in the report. The dialogue should continue through sending the suggestions and recommendations on the official report by directly communicating with the Office of the Government Coordinator in this regard.

Jordan will discuss the UPR report on the 8th of November 2018 in the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
