Our Work in Iraq

About FES Iraq

Since 2004 the FES has engaged in supporting and consolidating the democratization process in Iraq by supporting building public institutions, strengthening the civil society and promoting Human Rights.

History

From 2004 onwards, the Amman Office also coordinates the activities of FES in Iraq. At the origin of the Iraq projects were the support for the constitutional process and assistance in the development of new media outlets, as well as an extensive engagement in the training of Iraqi election monitors. Over the years, FES has extended its network of local partners and has broadened the scope of its activities in Iraq.

Tammuz Organization for Social Development

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Iraq and the Tammuz Organization for Social Development have maintained a longstanding partnership to promote democratic participation, civic engagement and inclusive dialogue in Iraq. Together, they implement programmes that strengthen youth leadership and political participation, including the Young Leaders Programme, as well as initiatives that support election observation and democratic processes. more

Al-Bayan Center for Planning and Studies

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Iraq and Al-Bayan Center for Planning and Studies cooperate to promote informed public debate, research-based policy dialogue and knowledge exchange on issues related to Iraq’s political, economic and social development. Through joint activities, including discussions, publications and expert exchanges, the partnership contributes to strengthening dialogue between researchers, policymakers and civil society actors. more

Ufuq Organization for Human Development

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Iraq and the Ufuq Organization for Human Development cooperate to promote democratic governance, human rights and civic participation in Iraq. Through joint initiatives, the partnership contributes to policy dialogue, capacity building and the exchange of knowledge on issues related to democratic development, transitional justice and the strengthening of civil society.

Information Center for Research and Development

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Iraq and the Information Center for Research and Development have maintained a longstanding partnership since the Center’s establishment in 2011. Through this cooperation, FES supports research and knowledge production on key political and social developments in Iraq, contributing to informed public debate and evidence-based policy discussions. more

Iraqi Women Network

Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Iraq and the Iraqi Women Network have partnered to promote gender equality, women's political participation and the protection of women's rights in Iraq. Through joint conferences, policy dialogue, research and capacity-building initiatives, the partnership supports advocacy for legal and policy reforms, strengthens women's participation in public and political life, and provides platforms for dialogue on key issues affecting women in Iraq. more
